In addition to working your way through our 10 Step Process, you’ll want to tap into the many resources available to you here on the Baseball Recruiting Corner. Here are a few to dig into early on.
Your goal in this college recruiting process is to identify a list of colleges that are a good fit for you academically, culturally and financially as well as on the baseball field. Then, to get college coach/coaches to come to see you play live and evaluate you. You need to be proactive to make these things happen and we’re here to help you work your way through this process.
You should know that it’s extremely rare for a college coach to offer a position to a player he hasn’t seen in person. If you are getting emails from coaches, or even talking to coaches on the phone, or going to their camps, it doesn’t mean that they are truly recruiting you until they make an effort to come see you play live. That’s when they are going to make their decision about you as a player. There’s a lot you can do to get that coach to the point where he comes to see you play; you want to focus on what you need to do to make that happen.
It’s important for you to recognize your need to be proactive. You’re going to hear us say that throughout the website and the recruiting lessons. Be proactive. Do what you need to do to improve your odds of not just playing college baseball, but finding the college baseball program that is the right fit for you. Too many ballplayers end up in programs that aren’t the right fit for them because they didn’t take charge of the process and instead just let things happen. Sadly, this often ends with them transferring schools – or even quitting baseball altogether after the first or second season. So, finding that right fit so that you can get in front of the right coach is your #1 goal. NLB’s Baseball Recruiting Corner is here to help you do that and we’re happy to have you here!
Go Right to the Source
We’ve done in-person interviews with some of the top Division I baseball coaches, asking them how they select their ballplayers, what makes a player stand out, what it’s like to be a part of their team. Take some time to listen to what they say – and think about what this means for you. Where do you need to up your game? (Go there… )
